About Us

Arlington
Fly-In Radio is a micro-power FM radio station originally conceived to cover the
campground and other fly-in areas that aren’t served by the public address
system. Over the years it has evolved to
offer 24hr radio services during the fly-in including aviation news, weather,
featured podcasts, and interviews with famous and not so famous pilots and
attendees. The station is run entirely
by volunteers of the Arlington Fly-In.
Erik
Utter is the
Station Manager and Chief Engineer. A broadcast engineer by trade, Erik is also
an active instrument rated Bonanza pilot and was a radio host many years ago.
Philip
Randolph has been
the field reporter for Fly-In Radio since 2006. His interviews have ranged from
Col. Bill Holloman of the Tuskegee Airmen, performers, warbird
and vintage restorers, EAA builders, to the rich variety of visitors and
campers, many of whom are air veterans or who have fascinating ties to
aviation. Philip is currently writing a book on physical, intuitive
explanations of aerodynamics, historically illustrated. He's also a somewhat
amusing poet. Philip and buddies, including station manager Erik Utter, chuck
RC gliders off ridges in the Cascades. In one way or another, it's all playing
with air.
Dave
Carey is our Fly-In
Radio weather forecaster who enjoys anything and everything to do with the
outdoors. His peculiar appreciation for both the best and the worst of our NW
climate inspired him to pursue a degree in atmospheric sciences from the
University of Washington. When he isn't forecasting for the Arlington Fly-In,
David works as a research meteorologist at the UW, working to improve the
forecasting skill of numerical prediction weather models. Dave is also a pilot.
Dale Comer is a producer and broadcast
engineer. A former producer of the
syndicated Delilah radio show, NPR affiliate host, and traffic reporter, Dale
has worked about every job there is in radio.
The
Hangar49 hosts include two former
broadcasters and a British
rock and roller that ended up in Canada.
Jim picked up his Private Pilot/Single Engine Land certificate in
2007. He flies a Cessna 172 from Spokane Airways at Spokane International
Airport. Al holds Private Pilot
certificate with a Single Engine Land rating. He has almost 500 hours and
has been flying for fun since 1999. He is a co-owner of a 1964 Cessna 172
based at Felts Field in Spokane, Washington. Tony holds a Canadian
Private Pilot Licence/Aeroplane
and holds night and VFR Over-The-Top ratings. He also
usually holds a glass of decent Scotch but they don't give ratings for
that. Tony owns a 1967 Cessna 172H with lots of STOL goodies
installed. He is based in Kelowna, British Columbia.
